Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association's Dogwood Tournament, a tradition since 1984, has been renamed the Trevor Wingrove Memorial Tournament in honour of the admired lacrosse player Trevor Wingrove. Trevor lost his courageous battle with cancer in July of 2010, at the age of forty-two.
Trevor's entire lacrosse career was spent as an Adanac: he played minor, junior and senior lacrosse in Coquitlam. Trevor was twice recognized by the BC Junior Lacrosse League for being a First Team All-Star and Most Sportsmanlike Player in 1987 and 1988. He also received the renowned Al Boles Trophy as the league's most inspirational player in 1988. He was the team's Most Valuable Player twice and also won the Most Inspirational Player Award. In his career as a Senior Adanac (1989-1994) Trevor twice won the Most Valuable Player Award. He also was Rookie of the Year and Most Courageous and Inspirational Player. During this time he also was a Western Lacrosse Association All-Star and won the BC Lacrosse Association's Maitland Trophy, which is awarded to the player displaying value to his team, good sportsmanship, and assistance to minor lacrosse.
The Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association hosts the annual invitational tournament to showcase some of the best talent and teamwork for A1 peewee, bantam and midget players (ages 10-16). The Trevor Wingrove Memorial Tournament runs yearly at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex. Over twenty teams compete in a round-robin format to determine a champion and provide insight for the front-runners for the BC Provincial Championships held in late July.
